Hiromichi Mizuno
Special Advisor to MSCI Chairman and CEO Henry Fernandez
Mr. Mizuno is widely recognized as a pioneering figure in the world of sustainable finance and investment. He served as chief investment officer of the Government Pension Investment Fund (GPIF) of Japan, the largest pension fund in the world, from 2015 to 2020.
During his time there, Mr. Mizuno demonstrated his conviction that for capital markets to be sustainable, society must be sustainable too. He has also served as Special Envoy of the U.N. Secretary General on Innovative Finance and Sustainable Investments, and as an independent director of Tesla, Inc. Prior to joining GPIF, Mr. Mizuno was a partner at Coller Capital, a London-based private equity firm. He previously worked at Sumitomo Trust and Banking Co., Ltd. in Japan, Silicon Valley and New York.
Mr. Mizuno currently serves as a mission committee member of Danone S.A., a director of LiveWire Group Inc., and a member of the CFA Institute’s Research and Policy Center’s advisory council. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Osaka City University and an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.
